Connecting with people in the modern era can sometimes be difficult, even though we are more connected than ever before with our access to technology. This reality has left many of us searching for opportunities to build meaningful and lasting connections with the communities we live in.
Meet Me in the Street
In American Canyon the annual Meet Me in Street events have become a highlight for residents and visitors alike. For the past five years, the American Canyon Chamber of Commerce has been organizing these gatherings to help the community connect in new and exciting ways. On the second Wednesday night of each summer month, West American Canyon Road becomes a vibrant place with a little something special for everybody to enjoy.
Attendees of Meet Me in Street are all drawn there for many different reasons. For some it may be a chance to just see some friendly faces, listen to music, or check out all the activities. Others might be there to enjoy something delicious from one of the dozens of amazing food trucks. Maybe the lure is to shop at the various booths or learn about organizations throughout the city.
Meet the American Canyon Library in the Street
The American Canyon Library has been lucky enough to be able to participate in these events the past several years. The staff joins in the fun each month by bringing a table to join the other 100+ groups at each event. Over the summer, thousands of smiling faces will stop at our booth to say hello, learn about library services, get information about our events, or try to win free books and prizes courtesy of the Literacy Department and the Friends of the American Canyon library.
The community is always so excited to see the library at community events, and we are always equally thrilled to see our library users out having a good time. Everyone is busy and sometimes getting down to the library regularly just isn’t possible for some, which is what makes these sorts of events take on greater importance. It allows people to rediscover the library outside the confines of our four walls. By meeting the community where they are we are helping spread awareness of our services and reminding people of what a great resource the library can be.
What made me fall in love with this event was the infectious joy that fills the air on these summer evenings, well that and the food! If you see me there you’ll probably find me enjoying an incredible baked potato or a gigantic cookie. Regardless of what your reason may be for attending the event we invite you to come stop by our booth and meet us. We can’t wait to meet you!
