Books by Mail FAQs

  • General Questions

Books by Mail is a free service for Napa County residents who live in remote areas or those who are unable to come to a library due to physical limitations or lack of transportation.

You can receive just about anything we circulate: books, audiobooks, magazines, CDs, or DVDs. Want something specific? Ask us! You can request by title, author, topic, etc. We can also mail Library of Things items, such as puzzles, WiFi hotspots, Sudoku books, and more!

Each item comes with a 5-week checkout period, which includes time for it to travel to you and back. Need extra time? Call us at 707-253-4243 to renew.

We'll send as many of your requests as will fit in a big, reusable canvas mailbag. When you return your bag, we'll send your next batch of items.

We'll mail everything to you in a reusable canvas mailbag, with a pre-addressed, pre-paid return card. When you're ready to send it back, you can leave it with your mail carrier, drop it at the post office, or bring it to any Napa County Library location during open hours. If it fits, you can use the book drops when the library is closed.
